Here is what 5 Minutes in the Word with Kids can do. Spending just five minutes in the Word with my children every morning has transformed not only the start of our days but also the condition of our hearts. It is just like having a cup of coffee and how you begin to look forward to it every morning. Five minutes a day in the word with my kids has become a morning ritual that we all really look forward to. Here is how you can incorporate it, too.
How We Started
It began simply. We read the Bible before breakfast, hoping for calm before the daily whirlwind. Those first few mornings, I picked a favorite verse, chapter from Proverbs or Psalms, or brief story, and together we read, listened, and asked questions. Instantly, I noticed more attention and fewer distractions compared to evening readings, when tiredness so often took over. Through out the day, I also noticed they started talking to me about what they had heard. It was encouraging to know it was impacting them, and a great reminder to me what the Bible was saying.
The Shift in Our Mornings
Instead of rushing into chores, homeschool, and the hustle, our mornings became anchored in truth. Just five intentional minutes; a passage, a prayer, a moment to reflect. Suddenly, our mornings seemed to go smoother. The boys played nicer and hopeful conversation took place, complaints quieted, and our family connection deepened. There was an unexpected peace, and we found ourselves ready for whatever the day would bring. The more we live out what we read, the deeper connection we have with God and each other.
Changes in Our Hearts
This simple habit didn’t just change our schedule. It is changing us. My children became more eager to understand God’s Word. The more we read, the more they are quoting back to me because it’s not about memorizing scripture but getting deep in the word and discussing it then living it out. We have carried those truths with us throughout our day. I watched curiosity grow, fears eased, and genuine conversations about real-life struggles unfold. Their confidence in asking faith questions soared, and our emotional bond became stronger.
Even when our mornings did not go as planned, there is a peace that I sense in it. I have stopped measuring success by a perfectly executed morning. I now see fruit in our family’s faith: comfort when one is anxious, conviction when we need gentle correction, and a shared language of prayer and encouragement. We are making Christ the center of our home. He is not just a guest here, but the heartbeat of our rhythms.

Making It Work
We keep it simple. Reading the word and discussing it’s meaning. Even the smallest commitment yields surprising rewards. Each morning we pray, read aloud, and let questions lead the way. The content isn’t as important as the habit. Then, we further our reading through incorporating Living Stones Study into our homeschool days. They love the adventurous and activities and going deep in such an engaging way.
Our messy, imperfect efforts have become sacred. Five minutes in the Word each day, before anything else, is changing our mornings. More importantly, it’s changing our hearts, one story at a time.
